6G-HOLONET doesn’t test its technologies in a lab and call it done. The project runs four distinct use cases across nine real-world sites in four European countriesBelgium, Greece, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Each chosen because it places genuine, demanding requirements on next-generation network infrastructure. Together they span three sectors where immersive media has the highest stakes and the greatest untapped potential: live entertainment, cultural heritage, and agile media production. Each use case pushes 6G capabilities to their limitsultra-low latency, high-capacity uplink, real-time AI orchestration, while simultaneously proving that the results are commercially viable, inclusive, and replicable at scale. What works in a music venue in the Netherlands should work in a museum in Greece. That transferability is the point. 

Use Case 1 | Immersive Live Music Broadcasting

Holographic artists. Real fans. One shared stage. 

What if musicians performing in different countries could share the same stage and fans could stand on it too? That is exactly what this use case demonstrates. Multiple artists perform live from geographically separated locations, each captured as a real-time volumetric video stream and composited into a single, fully 3D shared performance space. Audiences at the physical venue see holographic performers alongside those physically present. Remote viewers can move around the virtual stage, choosing their own angle and vantage point. And fans can enter a volumetric capture cabin at the venue, be recorded in 3D, and appear live on stage alongside the band. Trialled with Effenaarone of the Netherlands’ leading smart music venues, this use case redraws the boundaries of what a live concert can be. 

Use Case 2 | Guided Tour of a Virtual Museum Exhibition

World-class collections. No borders. No barriers.

Europe’s museums hold extraordinary collections, but geography, accessibility, and physical constraints limit who can experience them. This use case changes that. A remote cultural expert is volumetrically captured at the network edge, their live 3D avatar composited in real time with ultra-realistic 3D Gaussian Splatting reconstructions of heritage sites and artefacts captured across multiple locations. Visitors worldwide explore the result through VR headsets or holographic displays following the guide’s narrative, zooming into objects, and interacting with digital twins of items they could never otherwise touch. Developed in collaboration with ICOM, the European Fashion Heritage Association, and museums including Centraal Museum Utrecht and the Fashion Museum Bath, this use case proves that immersive cultural access can be both technically robust and genuinely inclusive. 

Use Case 3 | 6G-Powered Next-Generation Live Media Production

Broadcast-quality production. Without the trucks.

Traditional live event production depends on satellite trucks, outside broadcast vans, and fixed studio infrastructure, expensive, logistically complex, and out of reach for smaller venues and independent producers. This use case replaces that model with a fully integrated, cloud-native production pipeline powered by advanced 5G and pre-6G capabilities. AI-enhanced media processing, high-capacity uplink bonding, real-time orchestration, and edge computing work together to deliver broadcast-quality output from any location reducing costs, cutting carbon, and opening professional production to a far wider range of creators. The result is a live event workflow that is sustainable, scalable, and accessible. Trialed with the Greek National Opera and partners across Greece and the UK, this use case builds a reference model for next-generation media production in the 6G era.

4 | XR Opera: Immersive Live Performance

Classical tradition. Next-generation experience.

Opera is one of Europe’s most demanding live art forms and one of the most constrained by physical stage limitations. This use case integrates live performance at the Greek National Opera with extended reality technologies delivered over advanced 6G connectivity. Singers and orchestra perform live while AI-driven XR scenography creates immersive digital environmentsinfinite skies, dynamic visual effects, real-time translations and captions that evolve with the performance itself. Audience members can personalize their viewpoint, access accessibility features tailored to hearing or visual impairment, and engage with the performance in ways no fixed stage ever allowed. Edge computing handles the real-time rendering; ultra-low-latency 6G keeps every overlay precisely synchronized. The result is a live cultural experience that is technically groundbreaking, artistically ambitious, and radically more inclusive.
